VANCOUVER -- A former teacher at a Vancouver private school has pleaded guilty to two of four child-porn charges that arose from an international police investigation involving the online social networking site Facebook.
Christopher Charles Ingvaldson, 43, was arrested in June 2010, when he was fired from his teaching job at St. George's School. He had been head of social studies.
He was charged with two counts of importing and distributing child pornography, accessing child pornography and possession of child pornography.
He recently pleaded guilty to accessing and possessing child porn and will be sentenced May 24 at Vancouver Provincial Court.
At the time of Ingvaldson's arrest, the Australian Federal Police announced a total of 11 people had been arrested as part of a coordinated operation against a child-porn ring across Australia, the United Kingdom and Canada.
Three arrests were made in Australia and six in the United Kingdom, including one suspect who authorities believed was the head of a child porn network.
An Australian police officer created an online identity on Facebook and was approached by a member of the network, which led to the charges.
The RCMP partnered with the Australian police and the FBI during the investigation.
Ingvaldson had previously taught at another Vancouver private school, West Point Grey Academy, more than a decade ago with Quebec MP Justin Trudeau, son of former prime minister Pierre Trudeau.
Ingvaldson was also a member of the Canadian national field-hockey team from 1990 to 1994.
He could be facing a maximum penalty of five years in prison.
